Wim Hof Method Workshop
The reality of our 21st century lives is that we have removed ourselves from our natural environment – but it has come at a price.
Our bodies struggle to adapt to changing temperatures. To sustain our financial and technological status quo, we’re in a constant state of low-level stress and “busyness”.
Mother nature itself taught us (through practice) to deal with the changing of the seasons, heightened stress levels from existential threats and tougher physical environments. We evolved with the mechanisms to alleviate these hazards and discomforts.
We’re so busy with our mundane routines that we now need to consciously focus to awaken these innate responses in order to enjoy the benefits of enhanced physical and mental well-being.
Put simply, we need to reset our bodies and minds.
The Wim Hof Method is a simple way of reconnecting with our natural environment, ourselves and our deeper personal processes.
At Lough Allen Adventure Centre, Edwin, our Wim Hof Method Instructor can guide you through the Wim Hof breathing techniques or lead you gently through an entire Wim Hof Method workshop, including a cold therapy session.
Practicing the Wim Hof Method is a proven way to:
- Increase your energy
- Sleep better
- Reduce your stress levels
- Heighten your focus and determination
- Increase your willpower
- Strengthen your immune system
- Promote longevity by allowing your body to function more efficiently
The Wim Hof Method is based on three powerful pillars: breathing, cold therapy and mindset.
Breathwork
Wim describes his breathing technique as “power breathing”. It’s a deep, regular breathing technique that releases energy and reduces stress levels. We’re able to better deal with the viruses and bacteria that threaten our physical health as it also increases our immune response.
It’s the first step in allowing our mind and body to reset to its natural state. Regular practice not only reduces stress levels but increases focus and productivity.
Once learned, it’s easy to continue. That’s why we include it across so many of our adventure packages. With so many benefits, it’s a firm favourite of our customers.
Cold Therapy
Exposure to the cold in a controlled environment is an ancient technique that teaches our bodies to calmly cope with changing environments.
It speeds up our metabolism and boosts our levels of brown adipose tissue, allowing us to lose weight. It reduces inflammation and allows our immune system to function more efficiently. It balances our hormone levels and increases the production of endorphins putting us in a natural “feel-good” place mentally and emotionally. Not least, it improves the quality of our sleep.
Regular practice of cold therapy builds an enhanced state of relaxation. By exposing ourselves to “micro-stress” regularly, we cope better with day-to-day stress, allowing us to focus better and increase our determination and motivation in many aspects of our lives. All in all, by taking on something that’s “tougher”, we have increased willpower, so other things become easier.
Mindset
The Wim Hof Method is not just an experience, it’s a process. In the early stages of the process, our breathwork technique takes us outside our comfort zone and exposure to cold therapy naturally produces negativity and stress. Through practice, we become aware of our physical and mental responses to the impending discomfort.
By acknowledging these signals and stepping forward into these “micro-stresses”, we develop a stronger mindset. It’s also why so many people leave a workshop feeling exhilarated and ready to take on the world!
By changing our mindset, we open the door to our own potential.
You can enjoy the benefits of hot and cold alternating therapy every day at Lough Allen Wellness. You’ll find a hot tub, saunas and our cold plunge pool in atmospheric lakeside surroundings.
